Dr. Amanda Kavner completed her PhD April 2020 in the Curriculum, Instruction and the Science of Learning Program of the University at Buffalo concentrating on Machine Learning applications in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience. She has over 10 years classroom experience as a NY secondary public-school science teacher and was a recipient of the NYS Master Teacher Fellowhip. She is a certified Educational Technology Specialist and at the High School level, has taught courses in chemistry, biology, genetics, marine biology, and forensics.
As a college professor, Kavner focuses on interdisciplinary applications of science and technology. She teaches courses on critical thinking and applications of the scientific method in society as well as implications of living in an information streaming, data driven world.
Her research focuses on the development and application of cognitive computational models in educational assessment and curricular development using machine learning algorithms to analyze neurocognitive measurements recorded in educational environments. Her interdisciplinary work is based on cognitive psychology, social neuroscience, machine learning and data science; with a goal to connect basic neuroscience of behavior and psychophysiological study into educational practice.
